Known as “The City of Roses”, Portland’s warm, dry summers and wet, temperate winters are ideal for growing the symbol of romance. As Oregon’s most populous city, Portland offers a variety of options for local and visitor alike. It is home to a large number of microbreweries and microdistilleries, and is known for its love of coffee. The Portland Art Museum owns the city's largest art collection and presents a variety of touring exhibitions each year, and with the recent addition of the Modern and Contemporary Art wing it became one of the United States' twenty-five largest museums. While in Portland you can also visit The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) with its OMNIMAX Theater, Portland Classical Chinese Garden, an authentic representation of a Suzhou-style walled garden, or Powell's City of Books, one of the largest independent bookstores in the United States.

Computer components manufacturer Intel is the Portland area's largest employer, and the metro area is home to more than a thousand technology companies. This concentration gives rise to yet another sobriquet, “Silicon Forest”, which refers to the abundance of trees, as well as of technology companies. Also calling Portland home are the regional headquarters of Adidas, the headquarters of Columbia Sportswear, Yakima Products and Nike.
